The deadline
Under CLT art. 477, §6, the employer has 10 calendar days from the end of the contract to pay the severance, deliver the documents and report the termination to the authorities. The deadline is the same for every type of termination and notice.
Example: last day 30/09/2026 (Wednesday) → counting starts 01/10 → deadline 10/10/2026 (Saturday). To be safe, pay by Friday 09/10.
Late payment penalty
If the employer pays late, it owes the employee a penalty equal to one month's salary (art. 477, §8). Undisputed amounts not paid at the first labor court hearing may be increased by 50% (art. 467).
